weBoost Launches Sky, the World's First Vehicle Signal Booster Built for More Reliable Satellite Texting

Patent-pending weBoost Sky strengthens T-Mobile satellite texting (T-Sat) and terrestrial cellular signal, helping messages, location sharing and supported apps stay connected more reliably from inside a vehicle

ST. GEORGE, Utah, Sept. 29, 2026 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- weBoost, part of Wilson Connectivity and the leader in cell signal booster technology, today announced weBoost Sky, the world's first vehicle signal booster engineered to strengthen satellite direct-to-device (D2D) connectivity.

Satellite connectivity is turning the smartphone people already carry into a way to stay connected beyond traditional cell coverage. But there is still a weak point: the vehicle itself. Metal vehicle construction can further weaken an already distant satellite signal, making messages and supported data services less reliable from inside the cabin.

weBoost Sky is designed specifically for that gap. Mounted on the exterior of a vehicle, Sky strengthens the connection between a T-Mobile device and T-Satellite, then rebroadcasts the amplified signal inside the cabin. The same system also amplifies terrestrial T-Mobile cellular signal on supported spectrum, helping customers stay connected whether they are traveling through weak cellular coverage or beyond the reach of terrestrial towers.

Independent testing shows why that matters. D2D adoption is growing quickly, but reliable connectivity from a moving vehicle remains challenging. Ookla reported that global D2D connections grew 24.5% between July 2025 and March 2026, while drive testing in rural New York recorded a 60% satellite text success rate in moving vehicles. weBoost Sky was engineered to improve the strength and reliability of that connection from inside the vehicle.

Stronger signal going up. Stronger signal coming back in.

A smartphone typically transmits at 200 milliwatts. Sky amplifies that uplink to the 1-watt FCC ceiling - 5x the transmission power - helping overcome one of the biggest challenges in sending a signal from a phone to a satellite hundreds of miles above Earth.

Its exterior antenna also moves the connection outside the vehicle enclosure, while an in-cabin antenna rebroadcasts the amplified signal back to compatible devices inside.

In Wilson Connectivity field testing outside St. George, Utah, Sky improved RSRP from -116 dBm to -96 dBm, turning an unreliable T-Satellite connection into a dependable connection for messaging, location sharing and supported data applications.

"Satellite connectivity is changing what people expect from the phone already in their pocket, especially when they travel beyond traditional cell coverage," said Bruce Lancaster, CEO of Wilson Connectivity. "But connecting a device inside a vehicle to a satellite hundreds of miles overhead is still a difficult RF problem. Sky applies what weBoost has spent decades doing with terrestrial cellular networks to this new generation of direct-to-device satellite connectivity - helping customers get a stronger, more reliable connection without carrying a separate communications device."

How weBoost Sky works:

  • 5x uplink power: Sky amplifies the phone's 200 mW transmission up to 1 watt, the FCC maximum, helping strengthen the phone-to-network connection when weak uplink signal causes messages to stall or fail.
  • Exterior vehicle antenna: Mounting the antenna outside the vehicle reduces the signal loss caused by the vehicle enclosure and provides a better connection environment than a phone operating entirely from inside the cabin.
  • Up to +20 dB signal improvement in field testing: Wilson testing improved RSRP from -116 dBm to -96 dBm, with SNR improving from 1-6 dB to 11 dB.
  • Satellite and terrestrial connectivity in one system: Sky amplifies T-Mobile Band 25 used for T-Satellite D2D satellite connectivity while also strengthening supported terrestrial cellular signal when towers are available.
  • In-cabin coverage for compatible devices: An interior antenna rebroadcasts the amplified signal inside the vehicle so compatible T-Mobile devices can benefit without being physically connected to Sky.
  • Simple USB-C power: Sky draws less than 5W and installs without drilling or modification to the vehicle. A cigarette-lighter adapter is included for vehicles without USB-C power.

Built for the places where a connection matters most

Rural drivers and road travelers

For customers who routinely cross large rural coverage gaps, Sky is designed to strengthen both sides of the connectivity equation: weak terrestrial cellular signal when a tower is still within reach and T-Satellite when it is not.

Fleet and field teams

Utility crews, agriculture, oil and gas, forestry, long-haul and field-service teams can use Sky to improve two-way communication and supported data connectivity from the cab without installing a traditional satellite terminal.

Government and emergency services

For public safety, search and rescue, fire and EMS teams operating beyond normal network coverage, Sky can strengthen compatible T-Mobile devices and supported mission-critical communications equipment from the same vehicle-based system.

Overlanders and outdoor travelers

For 4x4 drivers, hunters, anglers, expedition vehicles and backcountry travelers, Sky helps make satellite-supported messaging, location sharing and compatible apps more dependable when a trip moves outside traditional cellular coverage.

Justin Fickett, founder of 207 Overland in Maine, tested a weBoost Sky prototype across 3.5 million acres of remote north woods with no terrestrial cellular coverage.

"With heavy tree cover we'd get anywhere from zero to one bar of T-Mobile satellite," Fickett said. "One day we noticed four bars on the phone mounted in the vehicle and realized the weBoost prototype had accidentally been turned on. Switch it off, the bars disappear. Switch it on, they come back."

With the prototype active, Fickett reported two-way text and onX off-road map functionality that had not been consistently available before.

One product for the transition between cell towers and satellites

Unlike a traditional satellite communications device, Sky does not create a separate communications ecosystem. It strengthens connectivity for compatible devices using the cellular and D2D networks they already support.

When terrestrial T-Mobile coverage is weak but available, Sky can amplify the supported cellular signal. When terrestrial coverage disappears and the device transitions to T-Satellite, Sky strengthens that satellite connection using the same hardware.

The customer does not have to decide which network to boost. Sky is designed to help the device stay connected across both.

Availability

weBoost Sky (SKU 471086) will be available beginning September 28, 2026 at weBoost.com and through select retailers and dealers.

MSRP: $149.99 USD

Sky is backed by a two-year manufacturer's warranty and a 30-day money-back guarantee. The product is FCC-certified and designed, assembled and supported in St. George, Utah.

About T-Satellite capability

weBoost Sky strengthens the connection between a compatible device and the network; it does not add satellite functionality to an unsupported device or change the satellite texting and other services supported by T-Satellite.

T-Satellite supports text messaging, location sharing, picture and audio messaging, select apps, and satellite data. Sky is designed to make those supported services more reliable when weak signal would otherwise prevent or interrupt the connection.
